The most popular touristic beaches, including the surf area in Olas Altas and Santiago beach (in front of Club Maeva) are located on the known bay: Santiago Bay. These ones are among the favorites and a brief overview:
La Audiencia
La Audiencia public beach, where Hotel Tesoro Manzanillo stands today and where Indians met with Spanish conquerers centuries ago is located on Santiago Peninsula. The movie “10” which brought Manzanillo to fame with Bo Derek and Dudley Moore frolicking on the beach was filmed at La Audiencia. Locals and visitors enjoy the watersports activities such as jet skiing, kayaking, banana boating and congregate to admire the fiery sunsets at dusk. Both sides of the sheltered bay are lined with cliff-top homes and feature incredible snorkeling and diving to depths of 12 meters along a rock and sand floor.
Miramar
Miramar’s long beach is ideal for a leisurely stroll from tip to end. Along this beach, the main hangout for many hotels in the bay, beachfront restaurants with lounge chairs and umbrellas provide the perfect location to watch the day unfold with a plate of ceviche and a cervesa.
La Boquita
At the north end is La Boquita, a lively, family-friendly local beach with gentle waves and rustic palapa restaurants serving fresh seafood. An old sunken cargo ship lies just offshore, providing a cavernous home for sea life and a unique snorkeling experience.
Other beaches…
Other beaches located nearer Manzanillo downtown are Playa Las Brisas, Playa Azul, and San Pedrito beach. Santiago Peninsula (La Punta) you’ll find Playa Club de Yates and Playa La Escondida
Peña Blanca is a treasure located a few kilometers to the north of Playa de Oro. These beaches. An isolated strech of sand save for a few rickety uninhabited palapas that provide respite from the scorching sun.
